Shubman Gill Faces Pressure to Perform in T20I Series Against Australia, Says Aakash Chopra

[City, Date] – Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has stated that Shubman Gill will be under immense pressure to score runs in the upcoming T20I series against Australia. This comes after Gill’s underwhelming performances in the recent Asia Cup and his first ODI series as captain, where he scored just 43 runs in 3 matches.

Chopra highlighted that Sanju Samson, who previously opened for the team, is waiting in the wings. Chopra believes that continuing to bench Samson, especially if Gill fails to perform, could be seen as unfair by the team management.

“This T20I series will be extremely important for Shubman Gill,” Chopra said. “People are breathing down his neck. Sanju Samson had opened and done well. You are keeping him with the team and making him bat down the order. Many times, it seems like you are being unjust to Sanju Samson.”

Adding to the pressure, Chopra also mentioned the presence of Yashasvi Jaiswal, another talented opener, in the squad. He warned that consistently keeping Jaiswal out of the team, especially if he’s in good form, could also create a difficult situation.

“Yashasvi Jaiswal is around the corner,” Chopra explained. “He says he is also there and should also be played, and that he would also hit if he is played. So making Yashasvi Jaiswal sit out also becomes an issue of pressure.”

The T20I series against Australia will be a crucial opportunity for Shubman Gill to prove his mettle and secure his place in the Indian squad amidst growing competition.
