Tiruchi Railway Junction Bolsters Security with Advanced Surveillance System
TIRUCHI, October 28, 2025 – Passengers at the Tiruchi railway junction, a major transit hub in Southern Railway, can expect enhanced security measures as the station commissions a new state-of-the-art surveillance system. Over 130 high-tech cameras have been installed at strategic locations across the sprawling station premises, replacing outdated equipment and promising round-the-clock vigilance.
The new system boasts both fixed and pan-tilt-zoom cameras, providing comprehensive coverage of all eight platforms, the circulating area, yard, concourse, and parking lot. The cameras are equipped with a 30-day backup facility, ensuring thorough documentation of activity.
A dedicated, air-conditioned CCTV control room has been established on the first floor of the station building. Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel will monitor the video feeds from this central hub, allowing them to quickly identify and respond to any security threats or suspicious activity.
“The new cameras will act as a manpower multiplier,” a railway source stated. “They will significantly enhance our ability to maintain a safe and secure environment for passengers and staff.”
The installation was carried out by the Signal and Telecommunication branch of the Tiruchi Railway Division, following a joint inspection with the RPF. Testing is currently underway, and the system is expected to be fully operational in the coming days.
The Tiruchi railway junction is a vital transportation artery in Tamil Nadu, handling a high volume of passenger, express, and superfast trains, including interstate routes. The upgrade is a significant investment in passenger safety and security.
