Karnataka Scouts Chief Voices Disappointment Over Lack of National Recognition
Moodbidri, October 26, 2025 (The Hindu) – Karnataka State Bharat Scouts and Guides (BSG) Commissioner P.G.R. Scindia voiced his concerns on Sunday over the lack of recognition received by the state unit from the national headquarters of BSG. Speaking at an event co-organized with Alva’s Education Foundation, where the Messenger of Peace Award-2023 and Rashtrapati Puraskar-2016 were presented, Scindia highlighted the Karnataka unit’s substantial contributions.
“I am a little sceptical about how I should render my service or motivate my people to work when such contributions go unacknowledged,” Scindia stated. He cited the International Cultural Jamboree, which hosted over 60,000 delegates, the distribution of one crore face masks during the COVID-19 pandemic, and selfless service during major religious events as examples of the Karnataka unit’s dedication.
Scindia lamented that this extensive service has gone largely unacknowledged by the national headquarters, which he fears is dampening the enthusiasm of members. He also pointed out that despite India’s massive youth population, the Scouts and Guides movement has yet to reach even one crore members, urging greater outreach efforts.
Madhusudhan Avala Subramanyam, Additional International Commissioner (Scouts), emphasized the values of humility, courtesy, loyalty, and trustworthiness instilled by the Scouts and Guides.
At the event, 25 out of 48 recipients of the Rashtrapati Puraskar-2016 and 21 out of 48 recipients of the Messenger of Peace Award-2023 were present to receive their awards.
