Gandhi Accuses BJP Government of “Institutionalized Murder” in Doctor’s Death

New Delhi – October 26, 2025 – Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has strongly condemned the death of a government doctor in Maharashtra’s Satara district, calling it “institutionalized murder” and accusing the BJP-led government of inhumanity and insensitivity.

The doctor, found dead in a hotel room on Thursday, October 23rd, had allegedly accused police Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane of repeated rape and software engineer Prashant Bankar of mental harassment in a note.

Gandhi, in a post on X, stated that the doctor’s death was a tragedy that “shakes the conscience of any civilized society.” He further alleged that influential people associated with the BJP had pressured her into corruption, calling the incident “the most despicable example of a power-protected criminal ideology.”

“This is not suicide – it is institutionalized murder,” Gandhi asserted, questioning who can expect justice when power shields criminals. He pledged his support to the victim’s family in their fight for justice.

Police have arrested both Sub-Inspector Badane, who surrendered on Saturday evening, and software engineer Bankar. Bankar, accused of mental harassment and abetment of suicide, has been remanded to police custody for four days. A case of rape and abetment of suicide has been registered against the two men.

According to police reports, Bankar is the son of the doctor’s landlord. Relatives of the doctor, who was cremated on Friday, are demanding capital punishment for the accused. They also allege that she had repeatedly complained about harassment, and was pressured to change medical reports due to her autopsy duties.

The incident has sparked outrage across the nation, with many echoing Gandhi’s sentiments regarding the government’s alleged indifference.
