Sun Oct 26 18:00:00 UTC 2025: Giants, Coach Daboll, and Player Fined for Concussion Protocol Violation
New York, NY – The NFL and NFL Players Association have levied fines against the New York Giants, Head Coach Brian Daboll, and running back Cam Skattebo for violating concussion protocol during the team’s Week 6 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The incident stemmed from the evaluation of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart after he took a hit in the third quarter.
The Giants organization was fined $200,000, while Daboll received a $100,000 fine, and Skattebo was fined $15,000 for conduct detrimental to the league.
Following the hit, Dart was taken to the sideline medical tent for a concussion evaluation. Daboll and Skattebo both entered the tent while Dart was being examined. The league and the NFLPA stated that while their investigation concluded that neither Daboll nor Skattebo actually interfered with the exam, their presence created the perception of potential interference, violating the protocol’s requirements.
Daboll was also seen engaging in a heated conversation with the team physician on the sideline while awaiting Dart’s clearance. Daboll explained he wanted to inquire about Dart’s condition and the possibility of calling a timeout for a fourth-down play.
“I went in, didn’t actually go in, just stuck my head in to see how our quarterback was doing. Just asked him, ‘How you doing?'” Daboll said on Oct. 10, adding that he would “In no way would I want a player to come back out there that wasn’t ready to play.”
The NFL had initiated an investigation into the application of the concussion protocol two weeks prior. The league and NFLPA reviewed reports, video footage, and conducted interviews with medical staff, independent medical providers, coaches, and players. The investigation determined that the Giants’ medical staff and unaffiliated medical providers properly followed all required concussion protocol steps.
Skattebo offered a brief comment, stating, “Just glad Jaxson’s healthy. They took action, and it’s over with.”
The league noted that the Giants have taken steps to prevent similar violations in the future.
