Bengaluru Senior Citizen Falls Prey to Alleged COD Parcel Scam
Bengaluru, October 26, 2025: A 78-year-old resident of J.P. Nagar has become the latest victim of a suspected nationwide scam involving unsolicited Cash on Delivery (COD) parcels. The man filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Police, triggering an investigation into a Delhi-based company accused of sending fake products to random addresses.
According to the complaint, the elderly man received a parcel on October 11th delivered by a reputable courier company, addressed to his daughter. The package contained a 90-gram Korean peel face mask priced at ₹699. Suspicious, as his daughter denied ordering the item, he investigated further.
His inquiry led him to the courier company’s Puttenahalli branch, where he learned the parcel originated from a company in Delhi. Online research revealed numerous similar cases across the country, suggesting a widespread scam operation. The man reported the incident online.
The Cyber Crime Police have registered a case under the IT Act and relevant sections of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita) related to cheating and impersonation. Authorities have summoned individuals associated with the Delhi-based company for questioning.
“We suspect the company is sourcing data and addresses from social media,” stated a police officer familiar with the case. “They are randomly sending parcels, hoping people will accept them out of curiosity and pay the COD amount. While many refuse the parcels, some fall victim to the scam due to the relatively small monetary value, and often don’t report it to the police.”
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and refuse unsolicited COD parcels. Citizens are advised to verify all orders with family members before accepting delivery.
