Musetti and Zverev to Clash in Vienna Open Semifinal

Vienna, Austria – The 2025 Vienna Open is set for a thrilling semifinal showdown between second-seeded Alexander Zverev and fourth-seeded Lorenzo Musetti. The match will be played at the Wiener Stadthalle. Live coverage will be available on Tennis Channel, TSN, and Sky Sports.

Zverev, boasting a 50-21 record this season and a title win in Munich, navigated a tough first-round encounter against British qualifier Jacob Fearnley, winning 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (5). He then secured a more comfortable 6-4, 6-4 victory over Italian qualifier Matteo Arnaldi before advancing via walkover after Tallon Griekspoor withdrew from the quarterfinals.

Musetti has compiled a 41-17 record, showcasing his dominance on clay with a final appearance at Monte-Carlo and semifinal runs in Madrid, Rome, and Roland Garros. In Vienna, he defeated Hamad Medjedovic 6-4, 6-3 in the first round, followed by a 6-3, 6-4 win against Tomas Martin Etcheverry. In the quarterfinals, he won 6-3, 6-4 over Corentin Moutet.

While Zverev holds a strong record on indoor hard courts with eight titles from ten finals, Musetti leads the head-to-head against Zverev 3-1, having won all three of their completed matches. Their last encounter in Rome this year resulted in a 7-6 (1), 6-4 victory for the Italian. They also faced off in Vienna last year, where Musetti emerged victorious in a three-set battle.

Zverev has been solid on serve, winning 78% of his first-serve points in Vienna. Musetti, however, has been more efficient on break points and saving his own serve.

Despite Zverev’s Vienna title in 2021 and his overall experience on indoor hard courts, Musetti’s recent form, confidence from their previous Vienna encounter, and his aggressive playstyle give him a slight edge.

Prediction: Musetti to win in three sets.
