Metal Contamination Prompts Recall of Coca-Cola, Sprite, and Coke Zero in Texas

Washington D.C. – Thousands of Coca-Cola products, including Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, Coca-Cola, and Sprite, have been recalled in Texas due to potential metal contamination, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced on October 20th.

The recall, classified as Class II by the FDA, means the affected sodas could cause temporary or medically reversible health problems, although the risk of serious adverse consequences is considered remote.

Bottler Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages initiated the recall on October 3rd, affecting over 4,000 cans distributed within Texas. The FDA has not provided guidance on disposal of the recalled products, and Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages has yet to issue a public statement.

USA TODAY contacted both The Coca-Cola Company and Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages for comment on October 22nd, but had not received a response by press time.

Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages, a division of international beverage bottler Arca Continental, serves Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Arkansas. As of now, the recall is limited to products distributed within Texas. Consumers in Texas who have recently purchased these Coca-Cola products are advised to monitor news sources for updates and further instructions.
