Ben Stiller Faces Hard Truths About Fatherhood in New Documentary

Hollywood star Ben Stiller is confronting some tough realities about his parenting in his upcoming documentary, “Stiller & Meara: Nothing Is Lost.” The film, which explores his childhood and his parents’ relationship, also features candid conversations with his children, Ella, 23, and Quin, 20, regarding his role as a father.

According to Us Weekly, in the documentary, Quin told his father, “You have all these hats that you’re trying to balance… But also just, like, a father. And sometimes, I felt that would come last to these other things.” Ella expressed that, “I literally can’t ever remember you being around when I was growing up.”

Stiller admitted to The Sunday Times, “I probably f–ked up more with my kids than my parents did with us,” adding that his son even suggested being a dad “might not have been at the top of my list.” While Stiller recalls the things that were not good about his childhood, he recognizes that there is no way to avoid making mistakes as a parent.

Stiller also opened up about how his separation from his wife, Christine Taylor, further strained his relationship with his kids. However, the couple reconciled after quarantining together during the pandemic, and he believes it ultimately benefited their family. “We don’t take it for granted any more, and if you are happy, you’re going to be a better parent,” Stiller stated, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging the past and working towards repair.
