Short Injury, Indian Recovery Highlight Second ODI in Adelaide

Adelaide, Australia – October 23, 2025 (12:27 IST) – Australian all-rounder Matthew Short suffered a finger injury during the second One Day International against India at the Adelaide Oval today, casting a shadow over the home side’s efforts to clinch the series.

The incident occurred in the 34th over of the Indian innings. Attempting to catch a low edge from KL Rahul off the bowling of Josh Hazlewood, Short misjudged the bounce and sustained a blow to his fingers, resulting in heavy bleeding and forcing him to leave the field for immediate treatment. Hazlewood’s extra bounce caused the injury.

Earlier in the day, Australian captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss and elected to field, bringing in Alex Carey, Xavier Bartlett, and Adam Zampa to the playing XI. However, a resilient 118-run partnership between Rohit Sharma (73) and Shreyas Iyer (61) steadied the ship for India. Sharma struck seven fours and two sixes in his innings, while Iyer added seven boundaries of his own, ensuring the Men in Blue remained competitive. Hazlewood bowled a disciplined spell, finishing with figures of 0/29 from his 10 overs, including two maidens.

Australia currently leads the three-match series 1-0. The Aussies will look to seal the series victory in the third and final ODI, scheduled for Saturday, October 25th, also at the Adelaide Oval. India, meanwhile, will aim to bounce back and level the series.
