Wed Oct 22 03:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Netflix Shuts Down Merger Talk Amidst Industry Consolidation Buzz

Los Angeles, CA – Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos emphatically dismissed speculation about a potential merger with Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) or other media giants, emphasizing the streaming giant’s focus on organic growth. His comments followed WBD’s announcement that it’s exploring strategic alternatives, including a possible sale, sparking rumors of further consolidation in Hollywood.

“We’ve been very clear in the past that we have no interest in owning legacy media networks,” Sarandos stated during the company’s third-quarter earnings call. “There’s no change there.”

This statement distances Netflix from rumored interest in acquiring WBD, Paramount Skydance, or Comcast. Despite not commenting, Sarandos appeared to quell reports.

The announcement coincided with Netflix shares dipping roughly 6% in after-hours trading after the company reported missing Wall Street estimates on both revenue and profit. However, the company projected stronger-than-expected results for the current quarter and reaffirmed its full-year outlook.

Sarandos reinforced Netflix’s strategy of building its own capabilities rather than relying on acquisitions, citing the company’s successful track record of “building” rather than “buying.”

Co-CEO Greg Peters further downplayed the significance of industry consolidation, noting that past mergers, like Disney’s acquisition of Fox and Amazon’s purchase of MGM, haven’t fundamentally altered the competitive landscape for Netflix.

Peters highlighted the company’s ongoing focus on developing its technological capabilities, particularly in areas like artificial intelligence (AI). Netflix has already begun incorporating AI into its productions, such as the Argentinian sci-fi series “El Eternauta,” to streamline visual effects.

While embracing the potential of AI to enhance creativity and efficiency, Sarandos stressed that Netflix views AI as a tool to augment human talent, not replace it. “We’re not worried about AI replacing creativity, but we’re very excited about AI creating tools to help creativity,” he said.

Netflix’s commitment to organic growth and technological innovation signals a clear path forward for the streaming giant amidst the swirling speculation of media mergers.
