Wed Oct 22 05:20:00 UTC 2025: Orlando Magic to Tip Off Season Against Rival Miami Heat

ORLANDO, FL – The Orlando Magic are set to begin their 2024-2025 NBA season against the Miami Heat on Wednesday, seeking to improve on last year’s first-round playoff exit. Both teams are eager to make a statement after disappointing postseason performances. The Magic were eliminated by the Boston Celtics in five games, while the Heat, despite a historic play-in tournament run as a 10th seed, were swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Orlando, considered a rising force in the Eastern Conference, finished last season with a 41-41 record and a second consecutive Southeast Division title. Despite injuries to key players like Paolo Banchero and Jalen Suggs, the team boasts a strong core. The Magic added guard Desmond Bane in an offseason trade, hoping to boost their perimeter game. “Our strength is our depth,” said Magic coach Jamahl Mosley. “Our guys are going to play to the level of fatigue and then we have the next group coming in ready to go… along with the defense, our depth will be a major strength for us.”

Miami, on the other hand, will be without star guard Tyler Herro due to foot surgery. However, they acquired guard Norman Powell to bolster their roster alongside Bam Adebayo and Andrew Wiggins. “You have to be like-minded in your approach in how you view the game and how you compete,” said Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, regarding Powell. “He’s won a championship before… he has an edge to him, which we like.”

One area of concern for the Heat is their ability to hold onto leads, having lost 22 games last season after leading by double digits, including a 25-point collapse against Orlando. Both teams are hoping for a strong start, with Miami holding a 20-17 all-time record in season openers, and Orlando at 21-15.
