Mon Oct 20 18:10:00 UTC 2025: West Ham Fans Threaten Boycott of Nuno’s Home Debut Amid Ownership Protest
London, UK – October 20, 2025 – West Ham United manager Nuno Espirito Santo faces a challenging home debut as Hammers fans threaten to boycott Monday night’s clash against Brentford in protest against the club’s ownership. The match, scheduled for an 8 PM kickoff and broadcast live on Sky Sports, is overshadowed by growing discontent amongst the fanbase regarding the leadership of vice-chair Karen Brady and chairman David Sullivan.
Hammers United, a prominent West Ham supporters group, penned an open letter to Nuno explaining their decision. “The decision to hold a boycott was not taken lightly, but we believe that given the serious nature of the damage that will continue to be inflicted on our club while Brady and Sullivan remain in place, it is a necessary and justifiable step that must be taken.”
Nuno, who replaced Graham Potter as head coach, acknowledged the potential for empty seats and pleaded with fans to attend. “I wish they’re all there,” he said. “I hope that all our fans could join us and help us facing Brentford because it’s going to be very tough…It’s up to us now to give back to the fans so that they can come closer and support us.”
Despite the turmoil, Nuno insisted the team is focused on the task at hand. “We as a group and squad, we ignore. We try to ignore, focus on the task and perform and compete well. Also, the fans can be there. That’s what we’re focused on.”
Meanwhile, Brentford manager Keith Andrews expressed awareness of the potential atmosphere and believes his side could capitalize on any negative energy within the stadium. “You’ve got to understand the environment you go into, the differences, the fan element…All those things are part of your game plan.” Andrews added that Brentford would aim for a fast start, hoping to exploit the unease amongst the West Ham support and secure their first away points of the season.
