Tue Oct 21 02:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Widespread Verizon Outages Plague U.S., Disrupting Communication and Internet Services

New York, NY – October 17, 2025 – Millions of Verizon customers across the United States are experiencing widespread outages affecting a range of services, including home internet, mobile phone connectivity, and text messaging. The disruptions began overnight, peaking around 12:30 a.m. ET, and are continuing to impact users as of this morning, Friday, October 17th.

Major metropolitan areas, including New Jersey and the New York City area, as well as Chicago and Detroit, have been particularly hard hit. The outages have even reached areas like NBC Studios at 30 Rock, where connectivity issues have reportedly persisted for days.

According to DownDetector.com, a website that tracks real-time outages, customers are reporting problems with Verizon’s phone service, Fios 5G Home Internet, Fios Home Internet, 5G Home Internet, LTE Home Internet, Straight Talk, and Visible by Verizon.

Verizon has acknowledged the widespread issue and is alerting affected customers that data, voice, text, and wireless home internet services are currently limited. The company is urging customers to check the “Check Network Status” tool on its website by entering their address to determine the extent of the outage in their area and receive an estimated restoration time.

For users whose phones are displaying “SOS” or “SOS only” mode, it indicates a lack of network connectivity. While newer iPhone 14 models and beyond offer built-in satellite connectivity for emergency texts and calls, users with older devices may face significant communication challenges. Verizon provides troubleshooting guides on its website to assist customers in restoring connectivity.

“We understand the frustration these outages are causing, and we are working diligently to restore full service as quickly as possible,” a Verizon spokesperson stated.

Customers experiencing issues with Verizon services can contact the company’s technical support line at 800-922-0204, available from 8 a.m. to 12 a.m. daily. Verizon also offers a 24/7 chatbot through its website for additional assistance. For Fios internet-related problems, customers can call 800-837-4966 for 24/7 customer service.

The cause of the widespread outages remains unknown at this time. Verizon has not yet released a statement detailing the potential reasons behind the disruptions.
