Tue Oct 21 00:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Commanders QB Daniels Avoids Major Hamstring Injury, But Chiefs Game in Doubt; Armstrong Out for Season
ASHBURN, VA – Washington Commanders fans can breathe a sigh of relief, as MRI results revealed quarterback Jayden Daniels did not suffer significant long-term damage to his right hamstring after an injury sustained in Sunday’s 44-22 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Head Coach Dan Quinn confirmed the news on Monday, but cautioned that Daniels’ availability for the October 27th matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs remains uncertain.
“It was not significant,” Quinn stated regarding the injury. A timeline for Daniels’ return will become clearer when the team resumes practice on Thursday.
Daniels sustained the injury in the third quarter while attempting to avoid a sack by Cowboys linebacker Shemar James. As he braced for impact, Daniels reached for his hamstring, prompting concern from the Commanders sideline. He limped off the field, but appeared to be moving without issue in the locker room following the game. Should Daniels be unable to play against the Chiefs, veteran Marcus Mariota is expected to start in his place.
While the news regarding Daniels is cautiously optimistic, the Commanders received a major blow to their already struggling defense. Defensive end Dorance Armstrong suffered a season-ending torn ACL in his right knee during the same game. This loss is especially impactful as Armstrong leads the team with 5.5 sacks.
“That’s a hard one for us,” Quinn said of Armstrong’s injury. “I’m bummed for him; he was starting to make his mark.”
Adding to the defensive woes, Armstrong joins a growing list of injured defensive ends for the Commanders. Deatrich Wise Jr. is out for the season with a torn quad sustained in Week 2, and backup Javontae Jean-Baptiste suffered a season-ending torn pectoral muscle in Week 4. With two starting defensive ends already sidelined, Armstrong’s injury further depletes the team’s defensive line, which currently ranks 21st in scoring and 27th in yards allowed. The Commanders will need to find creative solutions to address these significant defensive losses moving forward.
