Diane Von Furstenberg Shrugs Off Husband Barry Diller’s Revelation About Past Relationships with Men
NEW YORK, NY – Fashion icon Diane von Furstenberg remains unfazed after her husband, media mogul Barry Diller, publicly discussed his previous relationships with men in his recently released memoir, “Who Knew.” Diller, married to von Furstenberg for 24 years, has been romantically linked to her since the late 1970s.
In a new interview, von Furstenberg dismissed any significance of the revelation, questioning, “What’s the difference? It doesn’t change anything. It’s a stupid question.”
The designer also acknowledged her earlier marriage to Prince Egon von Fürstenberg, who later came out as bisexual. “I married two gay men, OK? I don’t know why, but to me, they’re not gay, so it doesn’t make any difference,” she stated.
Von Furstenberg emphasized that she doesn’t view her support of Diller as “standing by him” through anything. She encouraged him to write his memoir, but stressed the book’s purpose extended beyond Diller’s exploration of his sexuality. “For me, the book is not about that. It’s about his life,” she explained.
Von Furstenberg also recalled that she never expected a romance with Diller initially. “He turned out to be my soulmate. I didn’t think of it at first,” she said. “I was interested in being a good friend; I never thought it would be anything else. Then it turned to passion. He was very insistent.”
Diller, for his part, expressed a similar sense of bewilderment at their connection. In his memoir, he wrote, “I can’t explain it to myself or to the world. It simply happened to both of us without motive or manipulation. In some cosmic way we were destined for each other.”
