Tehran, Iran – A well-known Iranian actor has been arrested and jailed after his bail was revoked following allegations of sexual assault and kidnapping. According to reports, a young actress filed a complaint with Tehran police, accusing the actor of rape.
The alleged victim, a 20-year-old aspiring actress, claims that the actor, a prominent figure in Iranian cinema and television, offered to help her advance her career. She alleges that he lured her into his car under the guise of giving her a ride home, then drove her to his house, where he allegedly restrained and sexually assaulted her.
The case has been transferred to the Tehran Criminal Court for investigation of the rape allegations and to the Media Court for the kidnapping charges, due to the actor’s fame. The actor appeared in court alongside the alleged victim for a closed-door hearing. Following the hearing, his bail was revoked, and he was immediately taken into custody.
Some sources identify the actor as Pejman Jamshidi, a former national football player and current film and television star. He is reportedly being held in the quarantine section of Qezel Hesar Prison, a facility known for housing defendants accused of murder and rape.
Police sources claim the arrest was ordered by the judiciary and that they played no role in the actual apprehension.
Adding another layer to the scandal, an anonymous film producer has alleged that this is not the first time the actor has faced such accusations. The producer claims that the actor previously settled a similar case by paying off the alleged victim. He further stated that the actor’s career is now effectively over, and that his recent health issues, including voice changes and loss of smell, may be linked to his actions. The producer also revealed the actor’s high earnings, with salaries ranging from 5 to 10 billion Tomans (approximately $100,000 to $200,000 USD) for a few days of work.
