Tiruvannamalai Set to Receive Boost in Water Supply with New Pipeline Nearing Completion

TIRUVANNAMALAI, INDIA – October 20, 2025 – Residents of Tiruvannamalai are breathing a sigh of relief as the completion of a new water pipeline project, stretching 24 kilometers from the Sathanur dam, draws near. The ₹55.49 crore initiative, funded under the Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme 2023-24, aims to provide a more reliable and sustainable water supply to the temple town.

“The entire work will be completed this month,” stated S. Selva Balaji, Commissioner of Tiruvannamalai Corporation. “New pipelines will prevent frequent pipe bursts and water seepage, addressing a long-standing issue.”

The project is designed to deliver 135 liters per capita per day (LPCD) to each household, significantly improving the water availability for the town’s 31,000 consumers. Currently, the town faces a deficit, generating only 18 MLD against a demand of 22 MLD due to pipeline leaks and resource depletion.

The new pipelines are replacing aging infrastructure that has been plagued by frequent bursts and leaks. Officials are strategically laying the new pipelines on the edges of the Tiruvannamalai-Aroor High Road, currently undergoing widening, to avoid future road-breaking charges.

“The new pipeline should be commissioned soon to ensure a regular water supply to tail-end areas in the town,” said B. Mahesh, a resident of Tiruvannamalai, emphasizing the importance of the project in preventing water contamination due to pipeline leakage.

The completion of this project promises to significantly improve the quality of life for residents of Tiruvannamalai, ensuring a consistent and cleaner water supply for years to come.
