Telugu Diaspora Urged to Invest in Andhra Pradesh’s Future
Sydney, Australia – October 19, 2025 – Andhra Pradesh IT & HRD Minister Nara Lokesh addressed the Telugu diaspora in Sydney, Australia, today, urging them to actively participate in the rebuilding and development of their home state. Speaking at a meeting organized by the AP Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS) at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Minister Lokesh emphasized the potential of the Telugu community to contribute to Andhra Pradesh’s growth.
Lokesh highlighted the historical significance of Telugu leaders like Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR) and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who brought global recognition to the Telugu community. He also expressed gratitude for the diaspora’s support during Mr. Naidu’s arrest.
He emphasized that the current TDP-Jana Sena Party-BJP coalition government is prioritizing both development and welfare, aiming for “one State, one capital, and decentralised development”. He noted the state has attracted ₹10 lakh crore worth of investments in 16 months and expressed the state’s gratitude for the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for facilitating Google’s AI data centre in Visakhapatnam and the AM&NS steel plant in Anakapalli. He also noted that Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan was a trustworthy partner, commenting that the ruling parties might have minor differences, but they were determined to take the State forward by amicably sorting out the issues.
Earlier in the day, Minister Lokesh met with Australia-India CEO Forum Director Jodi McKay, seeking the inclusion of Andhra Pradesh in the Forum’s State Engagement Agenda. He also requested support for the upcoming Australia – AP CEO Round Table, jointly organized by the AP Economic Development Board, Business Council of Australia, and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). McKay promised to extend all possible cooperation for the development of A.P.
S. Janaki Raman, Consul General of India in Sydney, and APNRTS president Vemuri Ravi Kumar were also present at the event.
