**Shatner’s “Big Bang” Cameo Almost Didn’t Happen: Cuoco Connection Saved the Day**

**LOS ANGELES, CA** – William Shatner, the iconic Captain Kirk of *Star Trek*, finally made his appearance on CBS’s hit sitcom *The Big Bang Theory* in its final season, but getting him there was a challenge. According to series co-creator Steve Holland, the legendary actor initially turned down multiple opportunities to guest star on the show due to creative concerns.

Shatner, a long-time fan favorite for a guest appearance on the show which features *Star Trek* prominently, wasn’t satisfied with earlier pitches and refused to play a caricature of himself. “He turned down several pitches because he wasn’t into the ideas Chuck Lorre and his team proposed to him,” Holland explained. “So he told them to come up with better ones.”

What ultimately sealed the deal was Shatner’s friendship with *Big Bang Theory* star Kaley Cuoco, his co-star in Priceline commercials. “I think what changed going into the final season is that he knows Kaley from doing commercials together and they’re friendly,” Holland revealed. “When I got on the phone, one of the things he asked was, ‘Will I get to play a scene with Kaley?'”

Shatner’s cameo appeared in season 12’s “The D&D Vortex” episode. He participated in an epic Dungeons & Dragons game run by recurring guest star and *Star Trek: The Next Generation* alum Wil Wheaton.

While Shatner ultimately agreed to play a more exaggerated version of himself, his initial reluctance highlights the importance of creative vision and personal connections in the world of television. *The Big Bang Theory* featured several *Star Trek* actors over its run, including Wheaton, George Takei, and the late Leonard Nimoy, but Shatner’s appearance was particularly sought after by fans.

The series finale of *The Big Bang Theory* aired in 2019, bringing an end to its twelve-season run.
