Mon Oct 13 17:42:57 UTC 2025: **Ukraine Sends Delegation to Washington Seeking Enhanced Defence and Energy Support Ahead of Zelenskyy-Trump Meeting**

**Washington D.C.** – A high-level Ukrainian delegation, led by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, has arrived in Washington D.C. for crucial talks aimed at bolstering Ukraine’s defence capabilities and securing its energy infrastructure as Russia intensifies attacks targeting the nation’s power grid. The visit precedes a planned meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. President Donald Trump scheduled for Friday at the White House.

The delegation’s mission comes as Ukraine faces escalating Russian strikes on its energy infrastructure, resulting in widespread power outages across several regions. Ukraine’s Energy Ministry has already implemented emergency power cuts to alleviate pressure on the damaged grid. Millions of households and businesses have been affected, with recent attacks leaving energy workers wounded.

“We’re heading for high-level talks to strengthen Ukraine’s defence, secure our energy resilience, and intensify sanctions pressure on the aggressor,” stated Andriy Yermak, Zelenskyy’s Chief of Staff, on X.

President Zelenskyy has been actively engaging with President Trump, discussing Ukraine’s immediate needs, particularly in air defence and long-range strike capabilities. Zelenskyy indicated that he has shared his vision with Trump regarding the number of Tomahawk missiles Ukraine needs.

President Trump has hinted at the possibility of providing Ukraine with long-range precision strike Tomahawk missiles if Russia fails to de-escalate the conflict. “They’d like to have Tomahawks. That’s a step up,” Trump said, referring to the Ukrainians.

The prospect of Washington supplying Ukraine with advanced weaponry has drawn strong condemnation from Moscow. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov warned of “serious consequences,” while Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev suggested such a move could “end badly” for Trump.

The Ukrainian delegation’s visit and the impending Zelenskyy-Trump meeting underscore the urgency of the situation in Ukraine, as the country seeks increased international support to withstand Russian aggression and safeguard its critical infrastructure.
