**Fragile Ceasefire Holds in Gaza, Complex Issues Remain After Hostage Release**

TEL AVIV, Israel – A delicate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is holding firm Tuesday, a day after the release of the last 20 living Israeli hostages held in Gaza and the freeing of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. While celebrations erupted over the hostage release, significant challenges remain in the wake of the two-year conflict.

Immediate concerns include the return of the bodies of the 24 deceased hostages, of which only four have been returned. The Israeli military identified two of the returned bodies as Guy Illouz, taken from the Nova music festival, and Bipin Joshi, a student from Nepal abducted from a bomb shelter. Israel reports Illouz died from wounds sustained in captivity without proper medical attention, while Joshi was allegedly murdered in the first months of the war.

Released hostages are receiving medical care, and some families say it will be weeks before they can return home. Several freed Palestinian prisoners in the West Bank and Gaza have also been hospitalized.

In a separate incident, the Israeli military reported opening fire on individuals approaching troops near the “yellow line” in northern Gaza, a pullback line stipulated in the ceasefire agreement. The military has yet to comment on casualties.

Long-term issues loom large, including the disarmament of Hamas, the future governance and reconstruction of Gaza, and the larger question of Palestinian statehood.

U.S. President Donald Trump, who brokered the ceasefire deal, hailed it as the end of the war and the start of Gaza’s rebuilding at a summit in Egypt. The UN estimates that $70 billion will be required to rebuild Gaza, with $20 billion needed in the next three years alone. Trump urged regional leaders to set aside old disputes to secure lasting peace. Neither Israeli nor Hamas representatives attended the summit.
