Tue Oct 14 06:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Family of Man Killed by Off-Duty Officer Now Demands Early Release of Video, Citing Misinformation
**Milwaukee, WI -** Days after initially supporting the narrative that the shooting death of Elijah Wilks, 26, by an off-duty police officer was justified, Wilks’ family is now urging authorities to release video footage of the incident immediately. The request comes as a grainy video circulating on social media fuels public speculation and questions surrounding the Oct. 9th shooting near West Mill Road and North 47th Street.
The video, apparently captured by a camera across the street, shows Wilks and the officer approaching each other before quickly separating. The officer then appears to fire at Wilks. However, the video’s poor quality makes it difficult to discern exactly what transpired between the two men.
Previously, police and the family stated that the shooting occurred after a minor car accident. They further alleged that Wilks struck the officer with a gun and pointed it at him. Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman indicated that gunfire was exchanged, although attorney B’Ivory LaMarr stated on Oct. 10th that it was unclear whether an exchange of gunfire occurred.
The family’s about-face follows a review of the official dashcam footage with police on Oct. 10th. Initially, they requested the video not be released for 15 days, the maximum allowed under department policy. Now, they believe the official footage will dispel misinformation and provide a clear picture of the events.
“The vantage point and resolution of the official dashcam video answers every question,” said LaMarr in a news release. “The Wilks family has seen the truth for themselves. Now they want the public to see it too. They are choosing truth over rumor — transparency over division.”
LaMarr emphasized the broader implications of the case: “This is not just about one case. It’s about restoring public faith in law enforcement and ensuring that accountability is applied equally — whether it’s a citizen or an officer. Accountability and empathy can coexist. The Wilks family is proving that.”
The Milwaukee Police Department has not yet responded to the request for early release of the footage. The West Allis Police Department is leading the investigation into the shooting.
