**Chennai, October 14, 2025** – The Greater Chennai Police have implemented heightened security measures across the city’s major shopping hubs ahead of the Deepavali festival, scheduled for October 20th. Anticipating large crowds in areas like Thyagaraya Nagar (T. Nagar), Pondy Bazaar, Mylapore, Flower Bazaar, Purasawalkam, and Washermenpet, authorities have deployed additional personnel and technological resources to ensure public safety.
Additional Commissioner of Police, South N. Kannan, personally inspected the security arrangements in T. Nagar on Monday. The enhanced security features include a new CCTV monitoring center, strategically placed police assistance booths, and increased manpower.
“We have implemented several special initiatives for the safety and welfare of the public,” stated Mr. Kannan. “Elaborate security arrangements have been made in areas that attract large crowds during Deepavali shopping.”
The comprehensive security plan includes:
* Eight temporary watchtowers
* Four police assistance booths
* Two temporary police control rooms
* Sixteen public address systems for safety announcements

In T. Nagar alone, approximately 200 police officers and personnel, 100 Armed Reserve policemen, and 100 Home Guards have been deployed on a rotational basis since October 1st.

To further enhance surveillance, the Drone Unit of the Greater Chennai Police is monitoring crowd movements, and plainclothes officers are patrolling the areas.
