**Kerala Minister Declares War on Loud Air Horns After Personal Encounter**

**THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, October 14, 2025** – Kerala’s Transport Minister, K.B. Ganesh Kumar, has initiated a statewide crackdown on the use of high-decibel air horns, citing both safety concerns and noise pollution. The announcement follows a personal experience where the Minister himself was subjected to aggressive honking by a truck driver.

Minister Kumar has directed the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) to conduct a special drive from October 13th to 19th, confiscating air horns from offending vehicles and publicly destroying them as a deterrent. He emphasized the danger posed by the prolonged and unreasonable use of these horns, particularly by buses and freight vehicles, to vulnerable road users such as two-wheeler riders and pedestrians.

“The rampant use of air horns is a serious threat to road safety and a violation of sound pollution regulations,” stated Minister Kumar in an official communique. He has instructed field officers to report violations to Deputy Transport Commissioners for stringent action, including the imposition of fines.

This isn’t the first time Minister Kumar’s actions have garnered attention recently. Last week, he abruptly cancelled the launch ceremony of 52 new MVD enforcement vans, citing dissatisfaction with the arrangement of the vehicles and perceived lack of effort by officials in promoting the event.

The minister’s actions reflect the governments increasing focus on stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and aim to reduce noise pollution.
