Sun Oct 12 18:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Buffaloes Upset No. 22 Iowa State in Thrilling Victory
**BOULDER, Colo.** – The Colorado Buffaloes, led by quarterback Kaidon Salter and a resilient defense, stunned No. 22 Iowa State 24-17 on Saturday, snapping a two-game losing streak and sending fans into a frenzy. Salter threw for 255 yards and two touchdowns, including a pivotal 70-yard bomb to Omarion Miller, while the Buffaloes defense came up with crucial stops in the fourth quarter.
The game swung in Colorado’s favor early in the fourth when Tawfiq Byard intercepted Iowa State quarterback Rocco Becht in the end zone. An initial pass interference call against the Buffaloes was waved off after review, much to the dismay of Iowa State coach Matt Campbell. Shortly after, the Buffaloes defense stuffed the Cyclones on a fourth-and-1, setting up a field goal that extended Colorado’s lead to seven points.
“We have a team full of dawgs that just don’t quit,” said Salter, who rebounded from a difficult performance last week. “We don’t give up.”
After the final whistle, elated students stormed the field, a move celebrated by Coach Deion Sanders despite the potential fine. “I want to see the kids rush the field,” Sanders proclaimed.
Sanders, who returned to the sidelines this week after undergoing surgery related to blood clots, believes his team is capable of much more. “We’re better than what our record says,” he stated. “We should be sitting up here with a steering wheel and in the driver’s seat.”
Abu Sama III led Iowa State with 177 rushing yards and two touchdowns, but the Cyclones were plagued by penalties, an uncharacteristic trend for the team. Coach Campbell acknowledged the need to refocus on the fundamentals. “We’ve got to go back to the fundamentals of what we do,” he said.
The Buffaloes, playing with 17 players ruled out due to injury, were outgained in total yardage but found a way to secure the victory. This marks Colorado’s second win over a ranked opponent since Sanders took over the program, following their season-opening victory over No. 17 TCU in 2023.
Iowa State (5-2, 2-2 Big 12) will look to rebound as they host No. 18 BYU on Oct. 25, while Colorado (3-4, 1-3 Big 12) aims to build on this momentum as they move forward in conference play.
