**Fantasy Football Owners Facing Kyler Murray Regret: Is It Time to Panic?**
*By Thomas Carelli, Sports Illustrated*
**October 17, 2025** – Fantasy football managers who invested a premium draft pick in Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray are facing a harsh reality: for the second consecutive year, Murray is failing to live up to his preseason hype. Through five weeks of the NFL season, Murray sits as just the QB19 in fantasy scoring, leaving owners questioning if he will ever reach his potential.
Despite playing in an offense that ranks 9th in the NFL in passing rate, Murray is averaging a mere 193 passing yards per game with just 7 total touchdowns and 3 interceptions. Critics point to the Cardinals’ run-first offensive scheme under Drew Petzing and overall offensive struggles – ranking 26th in total yards and 23rd in points per game – as contributing factors, but some argue Murray’s limitations are also to blame.
“Murray may see better games, but I see his upside as very limited,” Carelli writes. “He has never passed for 4,000 yards and his best touchdown output was just 26 back in 2020. When the Cardinals score, it is on the ground.”
The article doesn’t offer much hope of a turnaround and suggests that, given the abundance of quality quarterback options in the NFL, Murray may not even hold much trade value. Carelli advises fantasy owners to hold Murray, while acknowledging that the upcoming schedule does not look favorable.
However, the news isn’t all doom and gloom for frustrated Murray owners. Carelli highlights several free-agent quarterbacks who offer significantly more upside including: Matthew Stafford, Sam Darnold, and Geno Smith.
While difficult matchups await, Murray’s fantasy owners are advised to brace themselves and seek alternatives to mitigate the damage of a disappointing season.
