Sun Oct 12 11:04:05 UTC 2025: ## Andhra Pradesh Land Pooling Faces Opposition, CPI(M) Demands Halt
**VIJAYAWADA, October 12, 2025** – The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] has vehemently opposed the Andhra Pradesh government’s decision to initiate a second phase of land pooling for the Amaravati Capital Region, demanding an immediate retraction of the proposal.
Addressing a press conference on Sunday, CPI(M) State Secretary V. Srinivasa Rao criticized the government’s plans to acquire an additional 44,000 acres of land, arguing that the initial land pooling promises from 2014, which saw approximately 34,000 acres pooled from farmers and 54,000 acres of government land, remain unfulfilled.
“We urge the government to halt all forms of forcible land acquisition and to convene an all-party meeting to review the promises made to farmers during the initial land pooling phase,” Mr. Rao stated. He highlighted that promised plots remain undeveloped, job assurances unmet, and pledges of free education and healthcare ignored.
The CPI(M) leader alleged a lack of public consultation regarding the second phase, sparking widespread opposition among farmers and villagers. He criticized the cabinet’s decision to form a special purpose vehicle for land acquisition and reauthorize the CRDA, despite earlier notifications being revoked.
Mr. Rao insisted that any additional land acquisition for infrastructure should only occur after open dialogue with affected farmers, stating, “The government’s coercive approach is unacceptable.” He demanded a cancellation of the second phase and an all-party meeting with farmers, political groups, and the Amaravati JAC to ensure fair implementation of past promises.
In addition to the land pooling issue, the CPI(M) leader also called for the withdrawal of the Central Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2025, deeming it unconstitutional and anti-people. He argued that the central government’s intervention in electricity, a State subject, violates the federal spirit and that privatization would lead to soaring electricity prices and burden the common people.
