**India Aims for Hydrogen Highway: CESL Drives Demand for Hydrogen Buses**
**HYDERABAD, October 12, 2025** – India is accelerating its commitment to sustainable transportation with a renewed focus on hydrogen-powered buses. Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) under the Ministry of Power, is leading the charge by aggregating demand for hydrogen buses across the nation.
Building on its successful track record of procuring over 33,000 electric buses, CESL is now acting as a national nodal agency to stimulate the hydrogen bus market. Historically, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) have been hesitant due to low demand, but CESL plans to address this challenge by aggregating national-level demand, fostering coordination between central and state government bodies, and harmonizing procurement efforts.
“Several public sector undertakings (PSUs) and government organisations have already expressed interest in adopting hydrogen buses,” stated A. Chandrasekhar Reddy, Adviser (Government Affairs and Media) at EESL. CESL is inviting national and state agencies to submit their requirements, leveraging its experience in electric bus procurement to bolster the clean mobility revolution.
The initiative also aims to build confidence among OEMs, financiers, and other industry partners to promote production and use of hydrogen. CESL has been designated by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, Ministry of Heavy Industries and Ministry of External Affairs as the nodal agency for demand aggregation, tendering, and deployment of electric buses under flagship programs.
Several towns and cities, including Hyderabad, Warangal, Tirupati, and Vijayawada, are receiving support to accelerate the adoption of hydrogen buses, paving the way for a cleaner and greener future for India’s transportation sector.
