Sat Oct 11 14:39:20 UTC 2025: ## Andhra Pradesh RTC Union Sets Deepavali Deadline for Promotions, Threatens Protests

**VIJAYAWADA, October 11, 2025** – The Andhra Pradesh Public Transport Department (APPTD-APSRTC) Employees’ Union has issued an ultimatum to the state government, demanding the release of a Government Order (GO) regarding long-pending promotions by Deepavali 2025. Failure to comply, the union warns, will result in statewide protests.

In a statement released today, Union President P. Damodar Rao and General Secretary G.V. Narasayya expressed their frustration over the stalled promotions, impacting approximately 6,000 RTC employees. According to the union leaders, the APSRTC management had already forwarded promotion proposals to the government, and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reportedly approved the move on August 28, 2025. However, the GO remains stuck within the General Administration Department (GAD).

The union also highlighted the increasing pressure faced by RTC staff, particularly drivers and conductors of the “Stree Shakti” buses, due to overcrowding. They voiced serious concerns regarding the rising number of attacks on staff by unruly passengers, urging authorities to take immediate action to ensure their safety. While acknowledging the staff’s commitment to the success of the free travel scheme, the union leaders lamented that they are facing abuse and physical assaults while diligently performing their duties.

Furthermore, the union reiterated its demand for the immediate induction of new buses into the APSRTC fleet, critical for the continued success of the Stree Shakti scheme. They warned that the already challenging situation for RTC workers will deteriorate further during the upcoming summer months if the government fails to act decisively.
