**Oslo, Norway – October 10, 2025 -** Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) president Lise Klaveness expressed relief and optimism following the announcement of a peace deal between Israel and Hamas, ahead of Saturday’s World Cup qualifier match between Norway and Israel.

Klaveness told Reuters she is looking forward to meeting with her Israeli counterpart, emphasizing the importance of dialogue, especially during challenging times. This follows prior criticism from the Israeli FA regarding NFF’s decision to donate profits from ticket sales to Doctors Without Borders in Gaza. The Israeli FA had previously requested a condemnation from the NFF regarding the October 7th massacre that claimed the lives of hundreds of Israeli citizens.

“We are, of course, extremely happy… that there is a ceasefire,” Klaveness stated, adding, “Football is nothing compared to peace, and now the bombs can stop over Gaza, and that hostages can come home.” She urged leaders in football and other organizations to give the peace plan “energy and momentum.”

Klaveness also addressed security concerns surrounding the game, assuring that Israeli fans are “warmly welcome” and that Norway has worked closely with Oslo police on security measures. She clarified that the NFF’s condemnation of attacks on Gaza does not diminish their sympathy for the trauma Israeli citizens experienced on October 7th.

Norway currently leads its World Cup qualifying group with 15 points.
