**Senior Police Officer’s Death Sparks Outrage, Congress Leader Alleges Injustice**
**New Delhi – October 11, 2025** – The death of Y Puran Kumar, a 52-year-old senior Haryana Police officer, has sent shockwaves through the state, prompting allegations of injustice and harassment. Kumar, an IPS officer from the 2001 batch, was found dead at his residence in Chandigarh on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has expressed her condolences to Kumar’s wife, Amneet P Kumar, a senior IAS officer, and voiced strong concerns about the circumstances surrounding his death. In a letter, Gandhi stated that Kumar’s passing is a stark reminder that even senior officials can be victims of prejudice and bias from those in power, depriving them of social justice. “I and millions of people of the country stand with you on this path to justice,” she wrote.
Kumar’s death is being investigated by a six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Chandigarh Police. However, the family is yet to authorize a post-mortem, citing incomplete information in the initial FIR.
A suicide note left by Kumar reportedly details mental harassment and humiliation he endured over the past few years, naming eight senior IPS officers, including Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapur and Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya. He was recently posted as Inspector General of the Police Training Centre (PTC) in Rohtak. The Haryana government has already transferred Bijarniya in response to the allegations.
The incident has sparked a wider conversation about the pressures faced by public servants and the importance of addressing workplace harassment.
