**Cauvery River Swells: Bathing Banned at Hogenakkal as Inflow Surges**

**DHARMAPURI, October 11, 2025 (The Hindu) -** A sudden surge in the Cauvery River has prompted authorities in Dharmapuri to ban bathing and coracle rides at the popular tourist destination of Hogenakkal. The inflow into Hogenakkal rose dramatically to 57,000 cusecs on Saturday, following overnight rainfall in the region.

The increase in water flow also impacted the Biligundulu reservoir in Krishnagiri, where inflow jumped from 8,000 cusecs on Friday to 65,000 cusecs on Saturday morning before receding slightly to 57,000 cusecs by evening.

“The safety of our citizens and tourists is our top priority,” said a district official. “The sudden increase in the river’s current and the muddied water make bathing and coracle rides hazardous.”

The Cauvery’s water has turned a reddish-brown color, indicating a high concentration of rainwater runoff due to the recent heavy downpours.

Authorities are closely monitoring the river levels and urge the public to heed the safety warnings. The ban on bathing and coracle rides will remain in effect until further notice.
