Wed Oct 08 19:14:27 UTC 2025: ## Haryana Top Cop Accused of Abetting Suicide of IPS Officer with Caste-Based Slurs

**Chandigarh, India** – The widow of a Haryana IPS officer who recently died by suicide has filed a police complaint against the state’s Director General of Police (DGP) and a senior superintendent of police, alleging they subjected her husband to caste-based slurs and harassment that ultimately led to his death.

Amneet P. Kumar, an IAS officer and wife of the deceased Y. Puran Kumar, accuses DGP Shatrujeet Singh Kapur and Rohtak Superintendent of Police Narendra Bijarnia of abetment to suicide and is demanding they be charged under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Y. Puran Kumar, a 2001-batch IPS officer, was found dead in his Chandigarh residence on Friday, having allegedly shot himself with his service revolver. A suicide note recovered by police names ten senior officers, both serving and retired, accusing them of years of mental harassment.

In a statement accompanying the complaint, Amneet Kumar, who was in Japan on official duty when her husband died, emphasized the systematic nature of the alleged persecution, stating, “This is not a case of ordinary suicide but a direct result of systematic persecution of my husband – an officer from SC community by powerful and high-ranking officers.”

She urged immediate arrest of the accused, citing their influential positions and potential to tamper with evidence and influence witnesses. She further stated that the suicide note serves as a testament to her husband’s broken spirit after years of alleged humiliation and harassment.

The late officer was reportedly troubled by his recent implication in a bribery case, filed by a liquor contractor, without the state government’s prior approval. He had been transferred to the Police Training College in Rohtak just days before his death, after serving as Inspector General of the Rohtak Range.
