**SAN FRANCISCO** – OpenAI held its annual DevDay in San Francisco, showcasing a range of new tools and partnerships aimed at empowering developers and shaping the future of artificial intelligence. CEO Sam Altman kicked off the event, highlighting the company’s impressive growth with 800 million weekly users and 4 million developers utilizing the API to process 8 billion tokens per minute.

Key announcements included the general availability of Codex, OpenAI’s software engineering agent, and the launch of AgentKit and ChatKit, designed to simplify the creation of AI agents and the integration of ChatGPT into existing apps. Altman demonstrated the App SDK, which allows users to access external apps like Coursera and Spotify directly through ChatGPT. The company also showcased advances in AI-generated video with Sora 2, and emphasized the growing importance of voice interaction with the launch of the smaller voice model gpt-realtime-mini in the API.

During the event, OpenAI showed several applications of these tools with demos from OpenAI employees, Coursera and HubSpot, causing stocks for both Coursera and Hubspot to temporarily rise. Attendees also got a glimpse of the company’s vision for the future of software development, where individuals can build complex applications with the help of AI. Altman claimed software projects that used to take months or years can be produced in minutes with the help of AI.

A major highlight of the day was a discussion between Altman and former Apple design chief Jony Ive, who is now overseeing design at OpenAI. Ive emphasized the importance of designing AI tools that are not only powerful but also bring joy and reduce anxiety, while acknowledging the rapid pace of change as a key challenge.

“I’ve never in my career come across anything vaguely like the affordance, like the capability that we’re now starting to see,” Ive said.

OpenAI also announced a significant partnership with AMD, deploying 6 gigawatts of AMD’s Instinct GPUs. As the company looks ahead, Altman teased DevDay 2025, signaling continued innovation and growth in the rapidly evolving field of AI.
