**Mangalore University Mourns the Loss of Director of Physical Education, C.K. Kishore Kumar**

**MANGALURU, October 5, 2025** – Mangalore University is in mourning following the passing of C.K. Kishore Kumar, Director of Physical Education, who died on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at the age of 60. He leaves behind his wife, Aruna, an advocate, and two sons.

Mr. Kumar had been hospitalized for 10 days due to health complications and passed away early Sunday morning. Condolences were offered at his residence in Kadri Shivabagh throughout the morning.

Kumar had a long history with physical education, beginning as a physical and cultural instructor at MGM College, Udupi. He joined Mangalore University in July 1996 as the Assistant Director of Physical Education and has served in several positions including Deputy Director of Physical Education, Chairman and Coordinator of the Department of PG Studies and Research in Physical Education and Sports, Coordinator of MEd Degree programme, and Director of Physical Education Department. He even served as the In-charge Vice Chancellor and the Registrar for a few weeks.

Mr. Kumar is widely credited with formulating the University’s sports policy, implemented in 2016. Under his leadership, the University’s athletic teams achieved significant success, securing overall champion trophies at inter-university competitions in 2015-16. He was also instrumental in establishing new gym facilities, equipped with the latest fitness equipment, for the University’s students and employees.
