**BrahMos Aerospace Thiruvananthapuram “Delinking” Raises Concerns Despite Government Assurances**

**THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, INDIA – October 2, 2025** – The Indian Ministry of Defence has confirmed the planned “delinking” of BrahMos Aerospace Thiruvananthapuram Ltd (BATL) from its parent organization, the Indo-Russian joint venture BrahMos Aerospace Pvt Ltd (BAPL). This decision has sparked concern among BATL employees despite assurances from Defence Minister Rajnath Singh that job security and worker rights will be protected.

In response to concerns raised by MP Shashi Tharoor, Singh stated that the transfer is in accordance with a 2007 Kerala government order related to the transfer of Kerala Hi-Tech Industries Ltd (KELTEC) for establishing the missile unit. He clarified that the company will be operated “as is where is” with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) as the majority stakeholder.

However, BATL employees have highlighted a potential discrepancy. The original 2007 Kerala government order stipulated that if the Indian government withdraws from BATL or transfers a majority share to an organization outside the central government, the Government of Kerala would have first priority to reclaim the asset.

While the original order handed KELTEC over to the DRDO, an amendment months later transferred it directly to BAPL, citing DRDO’s focus on research rather than production. The implications of this amendment on the current “delinking” process remain unclear, causing further anxiety among the workforce.

The government maintains that the transfer will not negatively impact employees and will adhere to existing employment practices. However, the apparent conflict between the original agreement and the current restructuring raises questions about the long-term future of the facility and the security of its employees. The situation is being closely watched as it unfolds.
