**Berlin, Germany** – Over 100,000 people flooded the streets of Berlin on Saturday, participating in a massive demonstration urging the German government to alter its policy regarding Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip. Protesters marched from City Hall to the Grosser Stern, responding to a call from a coalition of approximately 50 organizations, including pro-Palestinian groups, Medico International, Amnesty International, and the Left Party.
Organizers of the “All Eyes on Gaza – Stop the Genocide” rally demanded an end to what they called “German complicity” in Israel’s war. Their demands included a complete halt to military cooperation with Israel, including the import, export, and transit of weapons and military equipment.
Demonstrators chanted “Free, free Palestine” and “Viva Palestine,” holding signs that read “Stop the genocide in Gaza” and “Freedom for Palestine.” Many waved Palestinian flags. They called for an immediate cessation of German arms exports to Israel, increased humanitarian aid to Gaza, and EU sanctions against Israel.
The protest comes amid growing public pressure on the German government. A recent YouGov survey revealed that 62% of German voters believe Israeli actions in Gaza constitute genocide. Even within the ruling CDU/CSU bloc, 60% of voters share this view.
While Chancellor Merz and Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul have recently expressed sharper criticism of Israel’s military offensive and blockade of aid to Gaza, they have stopped short of using the term “genocide,” instead referring to the “disproportionate” use of force. Germany has also refrained from recognizing the State of Palestine, a step recently taken by other nations including France, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada.
