**MUNICH, GERMANY** – Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Xiaomi Automobile has officially announced its expansion into Europe with the opening of a new Research and Development (R&D) and Design Center in Munich, Germany. This marks Xiaomi’s first foray outside of China, signaling its ambitions to penetrate the burgeoning EU market.

Just four years after announcing its entry into the EV sector, Xiaomi has quickly become a force to be reckoned with. Its flagship SU7 sedan has seen phenomenal success in China, achieving 200,000 customer deliveries in a mere 119 days. While initially focused on meeting domestic demand, Xiaomi executives have hinted at future expansions.

The company has already established a presence in Germany through its performance on the Nürburgring racetrack. Impressed by Xiaomi’s technology, the German track welcomed the automaker into the “Industriepool” for R&D and even named a curve the “Xiaomi Curve”. Furthermore, the SU7 Ultra holds the record for the fastest lap by a production EV at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

According to a company statement, the “Xiaomi EV Europe Research and Development and Design Center” will focus on leveraging world-class expertise and ecosystems to accelerate breakthroughs in intelligent driving and vehicle dynamics. This aligns with Xiaomi’s commitment to building a global innovation network.

“The establishment of the Munich R&D and Design Center underscores Xiaomi EV’s commitment to building a global innovation network,” the release stated. “By leveraging world-class competencies and ecosystem, Xiaomi EV accelerates breakthroughs in intelligent driving and vehicle dynamics.”

Xiaomi plans to tap into the EU’s rich talent pool, seeking engineers, designers, and researchers to collaborate with its global EV teams. The Munich facility will also foster collaborations with research institutions and forge partnerships across industries to advance smart mobility solutions, ecosystem integration, and address ethical AI considerations.

Xiaomi’s expansion into Europe is slated to begin in 2027, and the new Munich R&D center will play a crucial role in ensuring the company’s vehicles meet global safety and quality standards. This move positions Xiaomi to compete in the growing European EV market.
