**NEW YORK** – An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer has been removed from his post after video footage emerged showing him tackling a woman to the ground at an immigration courthouse in Manhattan. The incident, which occurred at 26 Federal Plaza, has ignited a firestorm of criticism from elected officials and sparked calls for a criminal investigation.

The video depicts federal agents attempting to arrest an Ecuadorian man as his family pleads for them to stop. After the man is taken into custody, his wife confronts one of the officers, who then allegedly shoves her against a wall before throwing her to the ground.

“After taunting her with the response of ‘adios, adios,’ suddenly that agent threw her to the ground,” Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani said. “The kids began to cry, traumatized by the sight of their mother being assaulted in a government building.”

The woman reportedly stated that she felt unsafe in the United States after the incident.

Homeland Security officials have deemed the officer’s actions “unacceptable” and confirmed he has been relieved of his duties pending an investigation.

However, many believe that the officer being relieved of his duties is not enough. Congressman Dan Goldman condemned the conduct as unacceptable. “This conduct is unacceptable and we need to make a deterrent effect by seriously investigating it for criminal wrongdoing,” Goldman said.

Mayor Eric Adams, through his deputy press secretary, stated that he was “pleased to hear this incident is being investigated” and emphasized that “our entire city is less safe when immigrants are afraid to use basic services and attend court hearings.”

The incident has also become a point of contention in the upcoming mayoral race. Former Governor Andrew Cuomo’s campaign released a statement contrasting Cuomo’s past actions against ICE with Mamdani’s policies, while Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa stated that law-abiding migrants should not be deported.
