Sat Sep 27 11:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Europe Seizes Command on Day One of Ryder Cup, History on Their Side

**FARMINGDALE, NY** – Team Europe has established a commanding three-point lead after the first day of the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, raising hopes of a historic victory on U.S. soil. The Europeans ended the day with a score of 6 1/2 to 3 1/2 over the United States.

After dominating the morning foursomes 3-1, Europe weathered a spirited comeback attempt from the Americans in the afternoon four-ball matches to secure 2 1/2 more points.

The afternoon session was a rollercoaster of emotions, starting with a patriotic fervor fueled by a visit from former President Donald Trump and a stirring rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.

Despite moments of brilliance from the U.S. team, European pairings demonstrated resilience and clutch putting. Jon Rahm, partnering with Sepp Straka, orchestrated a strong performance, with Straka sinking key shots when Rahm wasn’t at his best.

“The morning, although it was great, it was just one part of a long race. We started great and we have to keep it going. That’s what we did,” said Rahm.

Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose delivered a crucial victory, marked by a dramatic exchange of long-range putts with Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Griffin. Rose punctuated his critical putt with a display of the European badge, reminiscent of past Ryder Cup legends.

While the United States managed to secure a dominant win in one match with Cameron Young and Justin Thomas crushing Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg 6 & 5.

Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry, despite facing relentless heckling from the New York crowd, salvaged a crucial half-point in the final match of the day, solidifying Europe’s lead.

“It’s a great day for Europe,” said McIlroy.

History favors the Europeans, as the last time they led after day one on U.S. soil (2004), they went on to secure a record victory. Furthermore, the team leading after day one has won the last five Ryder Cups.

Despite the deficit, the U.S. team remains determined. The Americans will need to mount a significant comeback over the next two days to retain the Ryder Cup. The pressure is on as the competition intensifies.
