## Telangana Government Announces Ambitious Housing Plan for Urban Poor

The Telangana government is forging ahead with a major initiative to provide affordable housing for the urban poor, promising to construct apartment-style homes and address long-standing housing issues in the state. The announcement came after the inauguration of 344 double-bedroom houses in Rasoolpura, Hyderabad, on Saturday, September 29, 2025.

The event was attended by Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, MPs Eatala Rajender and Anil Kumar Yadav, and MLA Ganesh.

Minister Srinivas Reddy stated that the government, under the direction of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, is developing a comprehensive plan to provide housing in apartment complexes, even for those living on smaller plots in urban areas.

“We are committed to fulfilling our promise to provide housing for the poor,” said Mr. Srinivas Reddy during a public address. He criticized the previous administration for prioritizing projects like Kaleshwaram over the needs of the less fortunate.

Despite current financial pressures, the government has pledged to construct 450,000 houses in the initial phase, with plans for further phases to follow. He emphasized that special attention will be directed towards addressing housing needs within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits.

The Minister also addressed concerns raised by MP Eatala Rajender and MLA Ganesh regarding the stalled Vajpayee Colony housing project, instructing officials to expedite completion and hand over the completed units to beneficiaries. He assured that repairs to incomplete double-bedroom houses would be completed within a month and gifted to deserving families.

Furthermore, the government committed to supporting long-term residents in the Cantonment area by converting occupied lands into freehold properties. Minister Srinivas Reddy urged BJP MP Rajender to collaborate with the Union Government to obtain necessary approvals for this initiative.

This announcement signals a renewed focus on addressing housing inequality in Telangana, with the government pledging to deliver on its promise of providing affordable and dignified housing for all.
