Sat Sep 27 07:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Modi’s Odisha Visit Proceeds Despite Heavy Rains, Telecom Boost Announced

**Bhubaneswar, Odisha – September 27, 2025** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Odisha is proceeding despite heavy rainfall and weather warnings across the state. A depression over the Bay of Bengal crossed the south Odisha coast near Gopalpur early this morning, bringing heavy rain to several districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued an orange warning for heavy-to-very-heavy rain in Nabarangpur district and yellow alerts for several other regions.

While the initial plan for a public meeting in Berhampur was shifted to Jharsuguda due to the forecast, Jharsuguda is still under a thunderstorm warning. Despite the weather, PM Modi is set to inaugurate development projects worth over ₹60,000 crore, focusing on telecommunications, railways, and higher education.

A key highlight of the visit is the commissioning of over 97,500 4G telecom towers across India, built using indigenous technology. This achievement places India among a select group of nations capable of manufacturing their own telecom equipment. According to a post on X, the towers will boost connectivity in remote and border areas, as well as those affected by Maoism.

Beyond telecommunications, PM Modi will lay foundation stones for the expansion of eight IITs nationwide, increasing capacity for 10,000 new students. Other projects include rail connectivity improvements, skill development centers, and housing initiatives, all aimed at fostering inclusive development and a “Viksit Bharat.”

Fishermen have been advised to avoid the sea until this afternoon. The IMD predicts the depression will move westward and weaken into a low-pressure area within the next 24 hours.
