**Mariners Clinch Playoff Bye, Continue Hot Streak with Sweep of Rockies**
SEATTLE – October 4, 2024 – The Seattle Mariners are headed to the AL Division Series after securing at least the American League’s No. 2 seed before even taking the field Thursday night. Cleveland’s loss to Detroit guaranteed Seattle’s bye, and the Mariners celebrated with a 6-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies, completing a three-game sweep at T-Mobile Park.
“It’s the mark that we’ve done something and that we’ve accomplished something and that we’ve had a good season,” said Mariners manager Dan Wilson.
Eugenio Suárez highlighted the night with his 49th home run of the season, putting him within striking distance of joining teammate Cal Raleigh in the 50-homer club. Raleigh, who hit his 59th and 60th homers on Wednesday, nearly added to his total, smashing a ball to the warning track in the first inning.
The Mariners, now 90-69, have been on a tear, winning 17 of their last 18 games and 11 straight at home. They will finish the regular season with a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, who have already clinched the NL West.
While the No. 2 seed guarantees a bye past the Wild Card Series and home-field advantage in the ALDS, the Mariners are still mathematically in play for the AL’s No. 1 seed, though they trail the Yankees and Blue Jays by one game with tiebreakers going to the other teams.
“The trick is to be ready and to stay ready during that [bye] week,” Wilson said, outlining the team’s immediate focus.
The ALDS schedule is yet to be announced by MLB.
