**Hyderabad, India** – Telangana is bracing for heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next two days, prompting the weather department to issue a red alert across the state. Several districts are expected to receive extremely heavy rainfall from September 27th to 29th, according to Dr. P. Leelaraani, head of the agricultural meteorology research center at Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University.

The forecast includes the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Vikarabad and Sangareddy districts on Saturday. Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanmakonda, Janagam, Siddipet, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, and Nagarkurnool districts are also at risk of heavy to very heavy rainfall. Other districts are likely to experience heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning.

Already, many parts of the state are experiencing overflowing streams and rivers, including the Godavari, Krishna, and Musi. Hyderabad witnessed incessant rain on Friday. Heavy rains are a result of a deep depression in the west-central Bay of Bengal.

The southwest monsoon has been particularly strong this year, with the state recording 95.06 cm of rainfall against a normal of 72.33 cm – 31% above average.

Pulkal in Sangareddy district received the highest rainfall on Friday, at 14.2 cm, causing widespread inundation. The Godavari River is swelling, prompting authorities to issue the first warning at Bhadrachalam.

Tragically, three deaths have been reported due to rain-related incidents. The state government has advised citizens to take necessary precautions and stay indoors where possible.
