**Drug Dealer Faces Decade Behind Bars After Town of Newburgh Arrest, Subsequent Investigation**
**Town of Newburgh, NY –** A Port Jervis man is facing a ten-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to drug possession charges stemming from a traffic stop in the Town of Newburgh in December 2024 and a later narcotics investigation. Joshua Conklin, 39, pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced.
The initial arrest occurred on December 18, 2024, around 3:34 a.m. when Town of Newburgh Police stopped Conklin’s vehicle on North Plank Road for a traffic violation. Officers discovered Conklin was driving without a license and, upon further inspection, spotted suspected narcotics inside the vehicle. A search of Conklin’s person revealed fentanyl and over 40 grams of cocaine.
While free on charges from the Newburgh arrest, Conklin became the focus of a joint investigation by the City of Port Jervis Police Department, the Orange County Drug Task Force, and the Town of Deerpark Police Department, targeting narcotics sales in the Port Jervis and Deerpark areas. On April 1, search warrants were executed at residences in both locations. In Conklin’s Port Jervis bedroom, police found scales used in narcotics trafficking. At a Deerpark residence where Conklin was present, authorities discovered fentanyl and approximately 24 grams of cocaine.
District Attorney Hoovler criticized bail reform laws, stating, “Notwithstanding the revolving door that bail reform laws have created for dangerous drug dealers to continue their crimes, my Office is as committed as ever to seeing these cases through to a just disposition.” He further emphasized law enforcement’s dedication to combating drug trafficking in Orange County.
Conklin is scheduled to be sentenced on November 24 and is expected to receive a ten-year prison sentence followed by three years of post-release supervision. Hoovler lauded the Town of Newburgh Police Department, the City of Port Jervis Police Department, the Orange County Drug Task Force, and the Town of Deerpark Police Department for their diligent work in the investigations leading to Conklin’s arrest and conviction.
