**LRT-1 Operator Offers to Complete Long-Delayed Common Station Project**
**Manila, Philippines** – The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is considering an unsolicited proposal from Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC), the current operator of the LRT-1, to finally complete the long-awaited common station connecting the city’s three major railway lines: LRT-1, MRT-3, and MRT-7.
DOTr Undersecretary Timothy John Batan confirmed the receipt of the proposal during the Arangkada Philippines Investment Forum in Pasay City on Thursday. “We have received their [LRMC] proposal. We are currently reviewing it,” Batan stated. The DOTr aims to finalize an agreement with LRMC by the end of the year regarding their potential involvement in the project.
The common station, intended to streamline transfers between the three lines, has been plagued by delays. In May, the DOTr terminated its contract with BF Corp. and Foresight Development and Surveying Company Consortium due to “excessive delays.” The project, originally slated for completion in 2021, was further hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. The DOTr has committed to finishing the station by 2027.
Since the proposal is a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), the DOTr will submit LRMC’s plan to the Department of Economy, Planning and Development Board for approval. The completion of the common station is seen as crucial for improving the efficiency and convenience of Metro Manila’s public transportation system.
