**Vypeen Beaches to Undergo Major Facelift, Tourism Set for a Boost**

**KOCHI, INDIA – September 23, 2025** – The scenic Vypeen region of Kochi is poised to become an even more attractive tourist destination with the announcement of the Vypeen beach corridor project. The long-awaited initiative is finally moving forward after a tender was awarded to Kerala Electrical and Allied Engineering Company Limited (KEL).

The ₹2.96 crore project, sanctioned by the state government, aims to revamp three popular beaches on Vypeen Island: Cherai, Munambam, and Kuzhipilly. The planned upgrades will enhance existing infrastructure and introduce new facilities designed to attract both domestic and international tourists.

“This project looks at developing basic facilities at the beaches and promoting tourism in the area,” said Vypeen MLA K.N. Unnikrishnan.

The makeover includes a range of improvements specific to each beach. Munambam will feature a new open gym, children’s play equipment, a walkway, a prefab snack bar, and comfortable seating areas. Cherai beach will see the addition of a disabled-friendly walkway, a coffee shop, designated selfie points, benches, a prefab rain shelter, and the renovation of the existing watch tower and police aid post. A dedicated parking area will also be constructed. Finally, Kuzhipilly beach will receive essential and basic facilities such as play equipment, a pathway, a prefab snack bar, selfie points, and revitalized landscaping.

District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) secretary Lijo Joseph emphasized the importance of the project, stating, “Cherai is one of the most sought-after destinations by international tourists after Fort Kochi. Therefore, developing essential facilities is paramount.”

The project is expected to be completed within one year and promises to significantly boost tourism in the region, providing enhanced amenities and a more enjoyable experience for visitors.
