**New York, NY** – The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has announced a commitment of $912 million to The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. The pledge, made during the foundation’s annual Goalkeepers Summit, comes as a response to significant funding cuts from governments worldwide, particularly the United States.

Bill Gates emphasized the critical need for continued investment in global health initiatives, warning that millions of children are at risk if funding levels drop too low. He highlighted that the decrease in funding comes even as countries like Australia pledged millions to mitigate the shortfall.

“What’s happening to the health of the world’s children is worse than most people realize, but our long-term prospects are better than most people can imagine,” Gates stated.

According to the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, global development assistance is currently at a 15-year low, with funding for The Global Fund projected to decrease by 14.4% from 2024 to 2025.

Gates, who plans to donate nearly his entire $200 billion fortune to the foundation by 2045, stressed the importance of maintaining funding for organizations like The Global Fund and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, as well as prioritizing primary healthcare and rolling out innovative treatments.

“You can either be part of improving [the health of children in Nigeria] or act like that doesn’t matter,” Gates said. “I am not capable of making up what the government cuts, and I don’t want to create an illusion of that [pledge].”

The Gates Foundation, established in 2000, is a leading global health funder, focusing on ending preventable deaths of mothers and babies, tackling infectious diseases, and alleviating poverty.
