Mon Sep 22 01:00:00 UTC 2025: **Michigan Holds Off Nebraska in Big Ten Opener**
**LINCOLN, Neb.** – No. 21 Michigan defeated Nebraska 30-27 on Saturday, fueled by a strong rushing attack and a relentless defense that sacked Cornhuskers quarterback Dylan Raiola seven times. While freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood’s passing was modest (12-of-22 for 105 yards), his poise and leadership, along with a 37-yard touchdown run, proved crucial for the Wolverines.
Michigan’s ground game dominated, amassing 286 yards. Justice Haynes led the way with 149 yards, highlighted by a 75-yard touchdown run, while Jordan Marshall added 80 yards, including a 54-yard score.
Nebraska fought hard, with Raiola throwing for 308 yards and three touchdowns, but the Cornhuskers struggled on third downs and were hampered by Michigan’s aggressive pass rush. A Hail Mary touchdown at the end of the first half tied the game, but Nebraska couldn’t maintain the momentum.
Acting Michigan coach Biff Poggi praised Underwood’s leadership and the defensive effort led by coordinator Wink Martindale. Nebraska coach Matt Rhule lamented his team’s inability to prevent big plays.
The win marks Michigan’s first Big Ten victory of the season, while Nebraska suffers its sixth consecutive loss in a conference opener and its 28th straight defeat against a ranked opponent.
Both teams have a bye week before returning to action on October 4th. Michigan will host Wisconsin, and Nebraska will host Michigan State.
